TOMS RIVER A 57-acre parcel of land has pitted some township officials against the school board; has a local activist concerned about the potential harm it could do to children; and has even prompted a call for a federal investigation by the Democratic candidate for mayor. A hearing over the 57 acres of property, known as Camp Albocondo off of Whitesville Road, is now set for Oct. 10. The controversial land has a unique history in the township it was sought by both the township, who were expecting open space, and the school district, who want to build an all-day kindergarten on the site. The saga began in 2005, when the property was rezoned from single family homes to senior development zoning by the Toms River Planning Board during the development of the township Master Plan.
