Cradling a $14.3 million purse from the Louisiana Recovery Authority, the Jefferson Parish Council approved a slew of projects Wednesday to better storm-proof parish hospitals and improve drainage and sewerage systems throughout the parish and its six municipalities. The Office of Community Development, which is in charge of the federal community recovery fund at the state level, must sign off on the list, marking the last administrative step before work can begin at the selected sites. Jeff Hebert, planning director for the LRA, said the development office will decide whether to approve each project individually sometime in the next two to six weeks. Wednesday's project list was a highlight reel gleaned from Jefferson's comprehensive $4.6 billion recovery wish list, which was compiled this summer by a loose committee of administration officials, council members, hospitals and business and civic leaders.
