ROAD WORK: HC Contractors wrapped up the main paving work on the $6.4 million Steese Highway project this week, applying the last layer to a surface that in some places is now up to 30 inches thick.
Some work remains to be completed. The deadline for paving and striping had been Sept. 15, but Shannon McCarthy of the Department of Transportation said the state is working with the company on an extension.
The company had few delays, but it got started late in the summer because it did the Richardson Highway construction project first.
The Jersey barriers on the Steese are due to be replaced before Nov. 15. Some paving along the sides of the road and the guardrails have yet to be finished.
Meanwhile, paving on the $8.8 million Parks Highway reconstruction is expected to be completed next week.
