London: People hurrying across Edinburgh to a Fringe or Festival event during August may well have found themselves skirting a vast construction site between the Old Town and The Meadows, emblazoned with the word Quartermile. Quartermile is one of the largest commercial redevelopment projects in Europe. It is a scheme to build 1.6 million square feet of flats, offices and retail outlets on the 19-acre site of the old Edinburgh Royal Infirmary. .
