In response to existing traffic problems, Campbell County and the Virginia Department of Transportation will make improvements to Livestock Road. The intersection at Livestock and Calohan roads near U.S. 29 has had traffic issues for years related to drivers heading to the county landfill or the livestock market, said Clif Tweedy, Campbell County public works director. The county is anticipating landfill traffic will increase by three to four times when it goes into use by all localities in the Regional Landfill Authority, Tweedy said. Additionally, commercial and residential development in the area is adding to traffic issues. Though designs aren't finished, a third lane will be added to Livestock Road, which will be rerouted to come out on Calohan across the street from Greenhouse Road.
