American Airlines Inc., which earlier this year stepped up competition with Northwest Airlines Corp. in Minneapolis, said Friday its regional affiliate begin a new route from New York's LaGuardia International Airport to Memphis, another Northwest hub. American Eagle will fly the new route twice daily with an Embraer 135 jet, which can seat up to 37 passengers. The flights will depart daily at 6:45 a.m. and 1:40 p.m. and will begin in December. .
